Body of missing Pomona man Peretz Sontag found in car

The body of Peretz Sontag, the father of seven from Pomona who had been missing since March 14, was found Sunday afternoon in Harriman State Park, officials said.

Sontag was located with his black 2012 black Kia Optima off a roadway in the park, Ramapo police Detective Lt. Mark Emma said.

Missing Pomona man Peretz Sontag’s family: ‘Daddy, please come home’

Looking forlorn from lack of sleep and worry, the family of Peretz Sontag made a tearful appeal for him to come home as they upped a reward offer to $30,000 on Wednesday for information that leads to finding the 50-year-old father.

Many of the Pomona man’s family members, friends and searchers gathered at an office building off Airmont Road to publicize his disappearance and offer the increased reward.

Police are investigating two missing person cases, one for a man believed to be suicidal and another who was last seen at his doctor’s office in New Jersey.

Peretz Sontag, 50, of Pomona was last seen driving off from his house early Friday in a Kia Optima, Sgt. Mike Higgins said. Sontag, whose family is well-known in the Orthodox community, made references to suicide, Higgins said. Officials were able to track a cell phone signal to Stony Point Friday afternoon but has since lost contact with him.
