A 16-year-old student at Colfax High School was reported missing after he visited a rest stop area off Interstate 80 to gather soil samples for a school project Wednesday afternoon and didn’t come home, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office said.
Dante de la Torre went to the Gold Run rest stop area around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday. He was believed to have packed water bottles, a hand towel, small shovel and snow boots.
