A Facebook page set up to bring attention to the cases of two missing local women is claiming that human remains found on the banks of the Eel near Ferndale in March have been identified as belonging to one of them – Danielle Bertolini, a 23-year-old Fortuna resident who went missing in February 2014.

“The skull found in eel river a couple months ago has been confirmed by DNA that it is my daughter Danielle,” reads a message posted earlier this afternoon in the Help Find Sheila Franks and Danielle Bertolini Facebook group, which was set up by members of the two women’s families. “REST IN PEACE SWEET ANGEL”

Danielle Bertolini and Sheila Franks both went missing within days of each other, both from the same area near Fortuna, California, and officials believe both were last seen with the same man.

“There are so many stories about what happened, but all I know is that both Danielle and Sheila suffered and we don’t have answers,” Billie-Jo Dick, Danielle’s mother, told Dateline. “We are just torn right apart.”

PLYMOUTH, Maine — Law enforcement officials in California are now calling the February disappearance of a former Maine woman a “suspicious missing person case,” officials from two agencies confirmed this week.

Danielle Bertolini, 23, was reported missing to Fortuna, California, police on Feb. 19. Her family last had contact with her on Jan. 29, according to her mother, Billie-Jo Dick of Plymouth.

Search for 2 missing Humboldt County women Danielle Bertolini & Shelia Franks continues – ContraCostaTimes.com

Two families have joined together to search for a pair of missing Humboldt County women who were last seen in Fortuna several months ago.

Rio Dell and Loleta resident Sheila Franks, 37, was last seen on Jan. 11 and was reported missing on March 13. Fortuna resident Danielle Bertolini, 23, has not been seen or heard from since Feb. 8. She was reported missing on Feb. 19. Both women have blonde hair and blue eyes.

Franks’ older sister and Alaska resident Melisa Walstrom is visiting the county this week to help with the investigation. Walstrom said the two women’s families are working in an extremely close group, even bringing in dogs from K-9 Forensics in Edgewood, New Mexico, to help search.

On Wednesday at about 8:23 am the Fortuna Police Department received a missing persons report of an “At Risk” missing person, Danielle Nicole Brooks (AKA: Danielle Nicole Bertolini), age 23. Danielle was reportedly last seen in Fortuna in the Campton Heights area approximately eleven days ago and the reporting family member last had contact with her on Jan. 29, 2014. Danielle was reported to be in the Fortuna or Swains Flat area.

On Wednesday at about 8:30 a.m. the Fortuna Police Department received a telephone call from a motel located on Riverwalk Drive in Fortuna. Staff was concerned as a guest; Terry Turley (54) had left her dog in one of the rooms and was two days late in checking out of the hotel.
