Body Found in South Carolina Amid Search for a Missing Girl | US News

BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) — A sheriff says a body has been found in a remote area of South Carolina amid the search for a missing 8-year-old girl whose mother was slain.

Authorities say they haven’t yet identified the body recovered Sunday morning near McColl. Marlboro County Sheriff Charles Lemon says in a statement that an autopsy is planned Monday.

BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. — A Bennettsville woman is dead, her eight-year-old daughter is missing and possibly endangered and investigators from the Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division and the Federal Bureau of Investigation are working to find the girl and solve the killing.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown Saturday said his office had ruled the death of 36-year-old Ella Shantrica Lowery a homicide following an autopsy but was not releasing any additional information on the death at the request of investigators.
